About
“Meet and Mingle Women's Cancer Support Group”, in High Wycombe started in September 2016.
Sandrine and Joanna (both cancer survivors) started the group as they felt support in High Wycombe was lacking, having to travel to Wrexham Park or Stoke Mandeville hospitals for support groups.
Its purpose is to provide generic support to all women in South Bucks with all types of cancer and at any stage of their cancer journey, offering practical and emotional peer support, information sharing, friendship and organised activities for members and their families.
This is the only peer support for women, covering all types of cancer in South Bucks. We are becoming increasingly recognised with referrals from health professionals and local publicity in the community.
We participate in Bucks Support Group Networking events hosted by Macmillan which will enable all groups to network, share information, and explore further opportunities for people living with cancer to have their say and use their cancer experience to make a difference.
We have recently received a grant from Buckinghamshire Council (Community Board High Wycombe) to support our work, for which we are grateful.
We are also recognized by the local Clinical Commissioning Group and are involved in Macmillan-funded engagement project exploring opportunities for involving patients in co-design for future services.
Meetings
Meetings are held twice a month, one meeting at a garden centre coffee shop or similar venue.
The second meeting is held at Wrights Meadow Hall, HP11 1SQ behind The Wycombe Retail Park on the London Road for an activity or speaker.
Each year we have several outings arranged. Last year we visited Saville Gardens and Waterperry Gardens.
In September each year we have a Macmillan Coffee morning fundraising event. This has proved very successful raising funds for a worthy cause.
